Introducing Cure CMD's new Scientific Director

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

Dear CMD Community,

I am delighted to join Cure CMD as the new Scientific Director. I am eager to build on the legacy of strong foundations established by Dr.Anne Rutkowski in 2008 to this superb and growing critical mass of scientists, clinicians, affected individuals and their families. I'm committed and hopeful that we will learn from each other, and together we will widen the spectrum of treatments to improve quality of life and ultimately find the cure for the Congenital Muscular Dystrophies...Oh, the Places We'll Go!

I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fascinated by biology, I received my Master's degree at the University of Buenos Aires, followed by a Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology. Seven days after defending my Ph.D. thesis, (08/21/1998), I arrived in San Diego, with my wife Veronica, to hone my scientific career.

I've had the great fortune to work at two terrific academic institutions: UC San Diego and the Salk Institute. Now, I welcome this new challenge and take it on with great enthusiasm and responsibility.

My life is not only dedicated to science; my lovely wife and two beautiful, sweet and caring daughters, Tatiana (10) and Rafaela (7) illuminate my life every single day. And to balance my calorie intake from my addiction to chocolate, surfing and soccer are my ways to go.

I look forward to meeting you all in the coming months!
